To use the Google Drive app to comment on PDF files, follow these steps:
- Open the Google Drive app on your Android device with Android 6.0 Marshmallow or up.
- Find and open the PDF you'd like to annotate.
- Tap the annotate icon (looks like a pen or a plus symbol with a pen) in the bottom right corner.
- A toolbar will appear with annotating tools. Using your finger or a stylus, select an annotating tool.
- To highlight, choose the brush size and colors, and use a wider brush tool with freehand strokes.
- Use the marker or pen tool to annotate over the PDF with freehand strokes, choosing brush size and colors.
- Erase individual lines by wiping through them.
- Undo or redo any action on the PDF.
- Show or hide all annotations by selecting Show annotations or Hide annotations.
- If necessary, snap the toolbar to any side of the screen by tapping and holding it.
- You can save the original PDF or create a new copy with a new name, keeping the original PDF unmarked.
For commenting on PDFs using a web browser on your computer:
- Open the PDF you'd like to comment on in Google Drive by selecting the file and clicking "Preview" or right-clicking and choosing "Preview."
- In the Preview screen's upper right corner, click the Comment icon.
- Use your cursor to highlight an area of the document related to your comment.
- Enter your comment and press "Comment" to save it.
- To assign a task for the comment to a collaborator, use the @ symbol before their name or email address, select them, check the Assign To box, and click "Assign."
- To edit, delete, or resolve a comment, open the file in Preview and click the three dots on the top right of the comment. Choose "Edit" to make changes, "Delete" to remove it, or click the blue checkmark to resolve a comment.
- To obtain a link to the comment, select "Link to This Comment" in the three-dot drop-down menu. Copy the link and paste it where you want.
