How To Use Smart Display Feature On iPhone In iOS 17?
To use the Smart Display feature on your iPhone with iOS 17, follow these steps:
- Ensure your iPhone runs iOS 17. If necessary, enroll in Apple's beta program to test the latest version.
- Go to Settings > StandBy and ensure the feature is turned on.
- Charge your iPhone using a USB cable, a MagSafe charging stand, or a compatible Lightning cable for older iPhones.
- Place your iPhone horizontally while it's locked and connected to power.
With StandBy activated, you'll experience a smart display interface:
- Two widget columns appear initially, showing information such as music playback, reminders, and HomeKit device controls.
- Swipe up and down within each column to switch between widgets.
- Tap and hold a widget to enter editing mode where you can add or remove widgets, rearrange them, or disable Smart Rotate and Widget Suggestions.
- Interact with widgets directly, e.g., playing music, checking off tasks, controlling HomeKit devices.
Additional features include:
- Photo slideshows and full-screen clocks accessible by swiping horizontally.
- Add albums to the slideshow and adjust clock styles by tapping and holding the screen.
- Support for Live Activities, allowing you to monitor events like flights or timers.
- Enhanced Siri visual responses.
- Multiple full-screen clock designs, including a classy mechanical watch face.
- Low-light mode that intelligently dims the display and switches to an all-red appearance for better sleep.
- Customization based on the location of your MagSafe dock, if used.
Please note that only iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro models support StandBy without the screen turning off after a few moments. Non-always-on display iPhones will not work with this feature.
