How To Use Tag Option In Notes App On iPhone, iPad, And MacOS?

To use tag options in the Notes app on iPhone, iPad, and macOS, follow these instructions:

macOS:

  1. Open a note or create a new one in the Notes app.

  2. Type the number sign #, then enter your desired tag (e.g., #meeting or #important). Tags should be a single word, but you can use hyphens and underscores (#meeting-agenda or #important_files).

    • Tagging: Click "OK" once you finish typing the tag.
    • Searching: Click a tag in the Tag Browser at the bottom of the sidebar to see notes containing that tag. Click a tag a second time to exclude notes containing that tag from the results.
    • Renaming: Control-click a tag, then select "Rename Tag" and click "Rename" to confirm.
    • Removing: Delete a tag by Control-clicking it and choosing "Delete Tag". To delete multiple tags, select them and Control-click a selected tag, then choose "Delete Tags".

iPhone and iPad:

  1. Open or create a note in the Notes app.

  2. Type the number sign #, then enter your desired tag (e.g., #shopping or #work). Tags should be a single word, but you can use hyphens and underscores.

    • Tagging: After typing a tag, tap the space bar to convert it into a tag. You can also select a tag from the menu above the keyboard.
    • Searching: In the Tag Browser at the bottom of the screen, tap a tag to see notes containing that tag. Tap a tag again to exclude notes containing that tag from the results.
    • Renaming: Touch and hold a tag, then tap "Rename Tag" or "Delete Tag".
    • Removing: To delete a tag, tap "Delete Tag". To delete multiple tags, tap "Edit" at the top of the folders list, scroll down to the tags, then tap a tag to rename or delete it.

Please note that you cannot add tags to a locked note, and when you add a tag to a note, the lock option disappears.
