What's new in Firefox 117?

In Firefox 117, some notable changes and improvements include:

  1. A hidden preference option to disable Firefox forcing the context menu upon Shift + Right-Click on a webpage, aimed at avoiding unwanted behaviors on specific websites.
  2. Local, privacy-friendly automated translation was initially anticipated but did not make it into this version; it may arrive in a later release.
  3. On Linux systems running Wayland, Firefox 117 removes the screen sharing indicator due to limited functionality compared to other platforms, considering most desktop environments have their own indicators.
  4. Improved scrolling behavior for YouTube video playlists while using a screen reader.
  5. Extension of credit card auto-fill region support for Austria (AT), Belgium (BE), Spain (ES), Italy (IT), and Poland (PL).
  6. Enhanced Web Platform capabilities such as:
    • Default enablement of improved CSS nesting.
    • Support for RTCRtpScriptTransform.
    • Introduction of ReadableStream.from, enabling the creation of a ReadableStream from an async iterable.
    • Added support for math-style, math-depth, and font-size: math CSS properties.

It's also important to note that Firefox 117 no longer supports Windows 8.1 and earlier versions, nor macOS 10.14 and earlier. Users on these operating system versions must switch to the Firefox ESR (Extended Support Release) to continue using Firefox.
