How To Use Offline Maps On Android And iPhone?

To use offline maps on both iOS and Android devices, follow these steps:

iOS 17 (Apple Maps)

  1. Open the Apple Maps app.
  2. Find the area you want to download a map for, and long-press on the area. A pin should drop on your screen.
  3. Tap "Download" at the bottom of your screen.
  4. An outline will appear to define the area for downloading; adjust the area until you're satisfied and then tap "Download" to start downloading the map.
  5. To access offline maps settings after downloading, open the Maps app, tap your profile picture, and select "Offline Maps."
  6. To delete or edit offline maps, return to the "Offline Maps" settings and tap the map you want to change.

Google Maps on Android or iOS

  1. Open the Google Maps app.
  2. Make sure you're connected to the internet and not in Incognito mode.
  3. Search for a place, and at the bottom, tap the name or address; then tap "More" > "Download offline map."
  4. After downloading, you can find a list of your offline maps by tapping your profile picture or initials, then "Offline maps."
  5. To select your own download area, tap "Select your own map" and adjust the area; then tap "Download."
  6. To delete an offline map, tap the profile picture or initials, go to "Offline maps," find the map you want to delete, and tap "Delete."
  7. Offline maps can be used just like online maps, but may lack some real-time features.

Note: Offline maps can be useful when traveling abroad, but also at home when cellular connectivity is unavailable. On iOS 17, maps downloaded by Apple Maps will also be available on your Apple Watch if nearby to the iPhone.
